Tiny Miracles Are Everywhere story.
I was standing in the grocery store, staring at a can of beans like it held the meaning of life. I’d had a long week, and this was the first time I’d been out of the house in days.
No makeup, messy hair, old hoodie—the “please don’t recognize me” outfit.
A woman shuffled up beside me.
Probably mid-80s, wearing oversized sunglasses and a leopard-print scarf like she was headed to a red carpet at 10 a.m.

She squinted at me.
Then, completely deadpan, she said:
“Honey, life’s too short to look this sad over legumes.”
I blinked.
She leaned in, patted my shoulder, and whispered,
“Get the ice cream instead. It never judges.”
Then she glided off, pushing her cart like she was Cleopatra in a parade.
I don’t know who she was.
I don’t know why she chose me. But I bought the damn ice cream.
And I smiled the whole way home.
